Les Rebas

A home and
business as one

Prosper was appointed to oversee the renovation and conversion of this 18th century French barn. The client’s brief was to create a dual use space, one where they could live and operate a rural retreat.

The French
connection

Occupying a beautiful site overlooking the Charolais landscape in Bourgogne, France, this private project required a sympathetic design connecting home and work life.

A blended
approach

Prosper’s portfolio of design skills were applied to everything from improving site access and circulation to revising the interior design and layout. Extending the ground floor of the barn to create a pantry and orangery provided the perfect opportunity to add a contrasting modern expression that connected the interior to the beautiful rural surroundings.

A botanical journey

Guests to the barn are invited on a culinary and botanical journey. A state of the art kitchen anchors the ground floor social space whilst also facilitating cooking classes, a key part of the guest experience.

Accessible design

To capitalise on the vast green areas on site, Prosper identified a new point of entry to the west side. This serves all vehicular access and maximizes the impact of the beautiful Charolais landscape.

Bedrooms are dispersed, with the two master suites perfectly located on the top floor to enjoy sunrise and sunset. A central full height atrium pays tribute to the exceptional, preserved carpentry work. The interiors add a contemporary feel, picking up on the tones of the stone and layering of materials, paying homage to this historical building.
